Old Aldenhamians - League (A)

The LOBs kicked off their campaign with a decent away trek to Aldenham School. Spirits were high with a fresh faced line up and a few debuts being made. Frankie doing another excellent job of bringing in more keen and talented LOBs!

The LOBs started with our classic 4-3-3 formation and were up against a rare 5 at the back. This presented a few organisational challenges off the ball but on the whole was handled well. First half had moments of nice football from both teams but both also lacked finding quality in the final third. Their best chance is the first half was well saved by Bradder’s and the lobs went into half time bullish for the second half as we we’d be playing down hill. A spirited half time team talk and tactical shuffle from Tudball and Nige meant we stepped out confident to take the lead.

The oppo had a surprise however, switching to 4-3-3 which meant we took some time readjusting and they started the half well getting their key men all the ball. It wasn’t all one way though with Cal making some mazey runs, Harry picking up nice pockets, and George continuously offering a threat, chances came.

Unfortunately like the first half we struggled to find the net. This led to the oppo hitting us on a quick counter with an excellent assist and finish in a devastating counter, one down. Going a goal down didn’t change much though, we still looked solid and were working our way into their final third. Unfortunately, then came their second. Again a moment of quality from the oppo and we were two down.

The attitude from here out from the lads was superb. Despite heavy legs, the desire was there to pull one back. Alas it wasn’t meant to be and final whistle blew.

Despite the loss heads could be kept high considering it was the first game of the season.

This was carried into match teas where the boys enjoy a couple of pints in the sun.

The same attitude for the rest of the season and we’ll be in a good place (both on and off the field 😉)
