Old Brentwoods II - League (A)

The final game of the season for the LOBs, with everything on the line…

A win or draw and the LOBs would stay in Division 2 for another season, but a loss would send them down to Division 3.

Confidence was high with a strong 14 making it all the way to Brentwood, and the LOBs started brightly on a rock-hard and bobbly pitch. Brentwood were under the kosh from minute 1, and a wicked ball into the Brentwood box was duly despatched by a clinical header by Josh Shand. 1-0 LOBs. The LOBs and J. Shand kept the pressure on and soon it was 2-0, Shand crossing to Will Honeychurch who slammed the ball into the bottom corner.

 

Brentwood were crumbling and were fortunate to win a penalty on the counter. Step up Bradley in goal, saving brilliantly down to his right before Luke Davies hooked the ball clear. 2-0 at HT.

A scrappy Brentwood goal pulled one back after the break to make it 2-1, but as the pressure creeped in the LOBs grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck. Star striker Alex Bilton made it 3-1, megging the keeper after a lovely turn in the box, and Hector put the game past all doubt with a 40-yard screamer (some claim it was a cross, but he knew what he was doing). A late Brentwood consolation meant nothing in the end, and the LOBs can celebrate another relegation escape, and another year in Div 2!

Some say the title is on the cards next season…
