Old Brentwoods IV - Junior League Cup 1st Round (H)

(as seen through the eyes of Disco!)

Much like a rail replacement service the LOBs were off to a slow start. After conceding an early goal in what looked like some pre-season 'rust' fortunately turned into a more controlled ending to the first half. I say controlled, we pumped two past them with goals from Will and Raff. Raff's is worth a mention as it might be the only time this year we've scored from a corner, if not, it's definitely the first time we've scored with a thumping header thanks to Frankie's superb cross.

So 2-1 up at half-time and the LOBs were keen to continue in that vein after the break. Naturally that wasn't the case and control turned into chaos, as our backs were once again against the wall, cries of "calm down", "put a foot on it" and "keep the ball" rang out all over the pitch until Brentwood finally got their equaliser! Shortly after the LOBs had a strong penalty shout after a shove at the far post. While the ref deliberated the oppo broke free and probably would have scored had he not finally blown his whistle. After a good five minutes negotiating by both sides the ref awarded a throw in to the defending team - the ball hadn't even gone into touch!

Despite all this the LOBs played some good football in parts with some slick passing on a difficult bobbly surface, and when Luke scored with a neat finish off his cultured left foot the LOBs were back in front with ten to go.

Had the LOBs had a bus they would have parked it, but did finish the stronger and 'probably' scored with the last play of the match as their keeper spilled one behind him. The general concensus was it went over the line but to avoid a diplomatic incident, and because we were ahead already, the man in black decided to blow the final whistle.

So the LOBs march on into the next round and a chance of glory at Wembley is still alive.
